On July 30th, we finally got to meet Theodore Allen Hayes! Though our little bear’s due date was August 15th, he decided he was ready to come a little early. I had a fairly uneventful labor and he arrived at 11:08 AM. He was 7 pounds 10 ounces and 22 inches long. We stayed in the hospital overnight and headed home the next day after Teddy got the okay to leave from his pediatrician. We had pictures taken in the hospital before we left and I can’t stop looking at them!
He is now three weeks old and doing well! Breastfeeding has been an adventure for the both of us but we have finally gotten the hang of it. No one tells you how hard the first week home with your new baby will actually be. Not only are you recovering from delivery and incredibly hormonal but the stress of waiting for your milk to come in is almost unbearable. Breastfeeding may be natural but it is certainly not easy (at least in the beginning)!
Luckily, Teddy only lost 5% of his birth weight at his first visit after discharge and I was able to relax a little. He was then 8 pounds and 1.5 ounces at his two week visit. I’m hoping he gets some rolls on him soon.
Its hard to believe I only have 2 weeks left of maternity leave. We are trying to make the most of it and cherish every moment we have together!
